HINTERLAND MOBILE TELEPHONE SURVEY
Closure of the 3G telephone service was supposed to open the way for a better telephone service. Seems that has not happened with many new black spots in rural areas and many reports of insufficient data bandwidth, especially on weekends for Telstra users.
A greater concern is the complete loss of mobile phone service during weather events. This is putting lives at risk and needs Government intervention.
CSF is carrying out a survey to get a clearer understanding of these problems and will present the findings to Federal MP Scott Buchholz.

A community campaign is being started to restore the toilet facilities, shelter shed and picnic tables that were "vandalised" by the Department of Natural Resources to create a "green space".
Forest Park is a popular swimming and picnic destination that used to have amenities including public toilets - nowhere to go now when nature calls!
In the absence of any community consultation Gold Coast City Council has decided to close the Numinbah Waste Transfer Station. The "city" wheelie bin solution is not suitable for many properties for a variety of reasons however their is no Council empathy or interest in the problems this poses for many of the Numinbah Valley residents - people feel abandoned by Council. They will now have to drive to the Merrimac Tip or the Springbrook Transfer Station and pay $5 to dispose of their rubbish.
The four community associations: Numinbah School of Arts, Landcare, Rural Fire Brigade and CSF have come together to develop a public campaign to get fairness for ratepayers in Numinbah. First step is a community survey to determine the potential impacts on residents.

Bridge/Road Upgrades
SINGLE LANE BRIDGES
For 30 years, the upgrade of single lane bridges to two lanes has been mooted. In the interests of road safety, this needs to be given priority.
NO PASSING LANES
A lack of safe passing opportunities on the Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd., leads to drivers taking risks to pass the many tourists who often drive at only 50kph. This is a road safety issue that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
